Wayne Yagi

Wayne Tsugio Yagi, 74, of Hilo, died Dec. 12, 2022 at his residence. Born Dec. 13, 1947, in Hilo, he was the retired proprietor of Wayne’s Diesel Repair, member and “Rooster” of the Hilo Jaycees, avid bowler and Army National Guard veteran. Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary chapel on Dec. 28 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.; memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire. No koden (monetary offerings). He is survived by wife, Jean Yagi of Hilo; daughters, Alissa (Kelton) Chang of Hilo and Jolene (Casey Tabata) Yagi-Tabata of Hilo; sisters, Verne (Alan) Yoshinaga of Hilo and Vivian Yamamoto of Honolulu; two grandchildren, Hailey Chang of Hilo and Karly Chang of Hilo; one uncle; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Corliss Yamaki

Corliss Naomi Yamaki, 79, of Hilo, died Dec. 9, 2022 at home. Born July 27, 1943 in Hilo, she taught in San Jose, California, and at Hilo High School, a founding teacher at Waiakea High School, finalist at this year’s State of Hawaii Senior Spelling Bee, member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, Hawaii State Teachers Association Retirees, Michigan Alumni Association, and a long-time editor of the Buddhist Wheel newsletter. Visitation will be held Dec. 28 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Sangha Hall from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; memorial service will begin at 11 a.m.; casual attire allowed. She is survived by sons, Mason (Valerie) Yamaki of Hilo and Nolan (Amy) Yamaki of Hilo; sisters, Sandra (Lloyd) Nishida of Hilo and Faith (Leslie) Kanda of Pearl City; five grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
